  • Goldfish

My aunt and uncle gave me an M&M Machine that I used to play with at their house.  It is made of red metal and takes quarters.  As a kid, I made the great discovery that if you jiggled the handle, you could get M&Ms for free very slowly.

I have brought this machine out to New Jersey, and it currently sits in my new apartment.  I am highly tempted to convert it into a fish bowl, get a goldfish, and name it Skittle.  Thoughts?

  • Google+ Recommends a Vacation

I got invited to Google+ today.   Google gives you suggestions of people to put in your circle.  The first suggestions (see image below on the right) either serve as a sign I should stop using my personal email for work or Google is telling me to take a vacation.

(For those not familiar, Josh was my first adviser at Princeton, and Nolan & Larry are current committee members).  Should Sarah Binder be offended she was on the second list of suggestions?

  • Scientists in Heaven

Newton, Pascal, and Einstein are playing hide-and-go-seek in heaven.

Einstein closes his eyes and starts counting.

Pascal goes and hides behind a cloud.

Newton stays where he is, and draws a 1mx1m square on the floor around him.

Einstein finishes counting and turns around.

“Ah ha, Newton! I found you!”

“No you haven’t, you’ve found one Newton over 1m2 . . . You found Pascal.”

  • Electronic Mail

I have had some good emailing today.  This however was a cute excerpt from my mom’s

Oprah is over….and yes I’ll miss her…I did enjoy the show.  Our Charter was out on Monday & Tuesday so believe it or not…I went up to Des Peres Lodge and watched both shows in their lobby. It was just me and the TV… a few people stopped by and watched for a few minutes but I was the only one there for just that purpose…They really were good shows so I’m glad I saw  them.

  • Where there’s a will, there’s a way around a hill

Well, Representative Liston made it (see previous post).

House Republicans were denied their one-vote majority for more than a week with the absence of Liston, R-Colorado Springs, who was recovering at his home from surgery to repair a detached retina.

But Liston, whose doctors told him he could not drive over Monument Hill because the altitude would injure his recovering left eye, made it to Denver today after taking State Highway 24 from Colorado Springs to Limon and then Interstate 70 to Denver.

  • Double Tid Bit

Not one, but two state legislative tid bits today.  For the first, I quote where I found the tid bit, Seth Masket‘s blog:

An amazing story out of the Colorado statehouse illustrating the dangers of narrow majorities: State Rep. Larry Liston, a Republican from Colorado Springs, just had surgery for a detached retina. His ophthalmologist told him he’s not allowed to go above 7,000 feet for the next two weeks while it heals. This means he can’t drive up to the Capitol in Denver, as I-25 exceeds that altitude at one point.

With Liston, the Republicans have a 33-32 majority. Now, the chamber has no majority party for the next two weeks, with just 2 1/2 weeks left in the legislative session. And there’s a lot of legislative business still to finish. Add to that the fact that Democrats control the state senate and the governor’s office, and there’s a lot of pressure on Liston’s retina.

Second, some of you may be aware of my love of PTI.  This man is a national treasure

Well, he gave me state legislative news today.  Carl Lewis cannot run for the New Jersey state senate.  Go to ESPN, your source for state legislative news, to read more.

  • Flight today…

Flew back to Princeton today….three things.

    1. I think the TSA thought a 12-pack of beer in a white garbage bag in my luggage was a bomb.
    2. Southwest pilots reuse the same jokes upon landing: “Now I am going to say what my parents told me when I was 18…..get your bags and get out” – heard on 3 of 4 flights in last week.
    3. I ended up waiting out my delayed flight at my destination airport (I was bumped up to an earlier flight to Newark, but my bag wasn’t.  So I waited for my original (delayed) flight to land at Newark).
